The season kicks off on Saturday – and The Darius Brubeck Quartet will be giving the first performance. If the name looks familiar – it should do – Darius is the son of Dave Brubeck. Like Jacqui and Alec – proof that talent can run in families. He celebrated his birthday on Monday (14th June).

Darius has performed and taught around the world. He has special links with South Africa, where he was Director of the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Durban. Previously he had introduced the first degree in Jazz Studies at an African University. He later performed in a series of concerts celebrating 10 years of democracy in South Africa.

The Quartet has Darius on piano: Paul Greenwood on saxophones and flute; Matt Ridley on bass and Wesley Gibbens on the drums.

Darius Brubeck’s homepage can be accessed here and the MySpace page here. Recordings of the Quartet can be purchased via the website.

Tickets for this first “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” event are available from the Stable – online or by more traditional methods.
